LET'S HELP NEPAL

Dear friends,

Its been a sad time for all of us learning about the devastating earthquake in Nepal and the unfolding humanitarian disaster that followed.  Everyone one of us has been affected by this tragedy one way or the other and each of us wants to help in any way possible.

We, as Darjeeling Unlimited Inc. ( North America), have decided to be of use to all who wants to pitch in and provide relief to those affected.  We have done a few successful donation drives in the past and everyone opened their hearts and gave generously. We are hoping we will get a similar response this time too.

DONORS' LIST

After much research, we have decided that the funds raised will be handed over to Grassroots Movement In Nepal Inc (GMIN). GMIN Organization Inc. is a nonprofit organization which supports and initiates grassroot movement focused on bringing sustainable social and environmental change in Nepal. GMIN works primarily to bring education to the most rural parts of Nepal to the students that need it the most. It has been active in rural Nepal since 2009.

Presently, their team in Nepal is helping with relief materials in the rural areas around Gorkha, Sanku and Kavre. These are earthquake  affected areas that are just being slowly accessed.  Besides the immediate relief aid, they are looking at long term rebuilding of basic infrastructures like schools and health facilities in the rural areas.

Along the way, we came to learn that Mr.Raju Lama of New York, who hails from from Sindupalchok district, was also conducting a fund drive Rebuild Nepal through Gofundme. We learnt that his area of Baruwa and Bothang in Sindupalchok was hit hard, with a lot of death, injuries and widespread devastation.The region being very remote, aid has been slow to reach. Presently he has a team of volunteers who are trying to reach those affected and provide relief.  Mr.Lama himself will be going to Sindupalchok at the end of his drive to personally take the funds and organise further help.Therefore, after discussions with GMIN, who were very gracious, accommodating and understanding, we decided to also provide some much needed support to Mr.Lama’s efforts and help him with 40% of our funds raised.    

We will be running the drive from April 30 till May25  2015 and extend it if required. 

There is a Paypal charge but Darjeeling Unlimited will cover the charges so that the donor amount will not be affected.

Most of you are familiar with Darjeeling Unlimited Inc. and its past work, which could help ease your worries about where your contribution is going. Like before, we will be fully transparent with updated donor lists and final handover of funds. Anyone wanting to remain anonymous will be accordingly.
